The effect of convection on pulsational stability
A review on the current state of mode physics in classical pulsators is presented. Two, currently in use, time-dependent convection models are compared and their applications on mode stability are discussed with particular emphasis on the location of the Delta Scuti instability strip.
متن کاملOn The Pulsational Stability of Blue Supergiants
The brightest blue supergiants represent the most massive evolved stars known. They are believed to be in the core helium-burning phase of evolution. To discuss the question of their stability, model interiors of core helium-burning stars with hydrogen-burning shells have been constructed and tested for pulsational instability (15-1000 M0). All models are found to be extremely stable against nu...
متن کاملSOLAR SEISMOLOGY. I. THE STABILITY OF THE SOLAR p-MODES*
We investi~ate the s~ability of the radialp-modes of the Sun by computing nonadiabatic eigenvalues and e1genfunc~ons for a solar envelope model which extends from an inner radius r ~ 0.3 J!..e out to an optical depth -r ~ 3 x I04 • Our calculations take into account in a crude fashion the re~ponse of.the convec?ve ~ux to the oscillation. The dynamical effect of turbulence m the convection zone ...
متن کاملTurbulent Convection and pulsational Stability of Variable Stars I. Oscillations of Long-Period Variables
We have performed a linear pulsational stability survey of 6 series of long period variable models with M = 1.0M⊙, L = 3000 − 8000L⊙, and (X,Z) = (0.700, 0.020), (0.735, 0.005). The dynamic and thermodynamic couplings between convection and oscillations are treated by using a statistical theory of nonlocal and time-dependent convection. The results show that the fundamental and all the low over...
